He was a very smooth and effortless skater who was a great athlete in several sports.
Prepared for College at Cambridge Latin and Noble's Schools.
Captained the Harvard University rowing team. Played ice hockey there between 1910-13.
Went to Europe in June 1913 and spent the entire summer in Switzerland and the winter in Paris, studying French.
Also rowed on the crew of the Société Nautique de la Basse-Seine.
Hailed as the fastest skater at the 1914 LIHG tournament. During the tournament he earned the nickname “la locomotive” (the Locomotive).
Standing almost 6’2” and weighing 180 lbs.
He returned to USA in July 1914 and went on to work for Brown, Sharpe and Company, Rhode Island.
Stayed there until August 1915 before entering Tufts Medical School and then Harvard Medical School in September 1916.
He was only 29 years old when he died of pneumonia at the Boston City Hospital.

Capitaine de l’équipe d’aviron de Harvard. Il a joué au hockey sur glace de 1910 à 1913.
Parti en Europe en juin 1913, il a passé l’été en Suisse et l’hiver à Paris pour apprendre le français.
Il a également ramé pour la Société Nautique de la Basse-Seine.
Au tournoi 1914 de la LIHG à Chamonix, le public le surnomme "la locomotive" du fait de ses montées rapides.
Goodale y arbitre le dernier match entre Français et Allemands.
Il retourne aux États-unis en juillet 1914 et travailla pour Brown, Sharpe and Company, Rhode Island.
Il y reste jusqu’en août 1915 avant d’entrer à la Tufts Medical School puis à la Harvard Medical School en septembre 1916.
Décède d’une pneumonie à l’hôpital de Boston, à l’âge de seulement 29 ans.
