Both his parents were born in Canada. Big tough and physical defenseman who led the 1938, 1939 and 1940 Mount St. Charles team to All New England and national titles.
Extremely versatile athlete while he attended Mount Saint Charles Academy.
Was stationed in Great Britain for a while during World War II and served as crew chief on a B-26 Bomber.
Chicago Blackhawks (NHL) showed interest in him 1944.
“Gussie” as he was also known to his teammates played pro baseball as well and was a talented catcher with the Brooklyn Dodgers' farm team, the Nashua Dodgers of New Hampshire playing alongside Hall of Famers Roy Campanella and Don Newcomb.
He was also signed by the Saint Louis Cardinals and assigned to play for the Rochester Cardinals. Became a hockey coach in the early 1950s.
He left coaching and became a Woonsocket policeman, working for the department for the better part of 30 years.

Ses deux parents sont nés au Canada. Défenseur grand et rude qui mène son équipe de Mount St Charles aux titres All New England et national en 1938, 1939 et 1940.
Athlète très polyvalent quand il arrive à la Mount St Charles Academy.
Fut assigné en Grande Bretagne pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale et a servi comme commandant de bord sur un bombardier B-26.
Les Blackhawks de Chicago se sont intéressés à lui en 1944.
Il a aussi joué en baseball pro et fut un attrapeur solide de l’équipe ferme des Dodgers de Brooklyn, les Nashua Dodgers du New Hampshire, jouant avec les Hall of Famers Roy Campanella et Don Newcomb.
Il a signé avec les Cardinals de Saint Louis et joué avec les Cardinals de Rochester. Devenu entraîneur de hockey début 1950.
Il arrête l’entraînement et devient policier pendant 30 ans.
