The tall Fredrickson was the son of Icelandic parents. The captain and star of the 1920 Canadian Olympic team. Stickhandling and breakaway virtuoso. Orchestrated most of the attacks on the teams that he played on. Very capable two-way player who also could play defense if needed. Served in Egypt with the Royal Air Force during WW I.
Played with and against many of the all-time greats in the NHL and was himself among the best, though he spent his best years in the western major league and not in the NHL. He was the first player together with teammate Slim Halderson to win both an Olympic gold (1920) and Stanley Cup (1925). Retired in 1931 after a sustaining a leg injury. Was an ice hockey coach and referee later on.
Also worked as an insurance man and on the Vancouver City Council. Was also an excellent Field Lacrosse player. Loved music and played violin in his spare time. Was almost blind the last couple of years and eventually passed away at the home of his daughter.
Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
His birthdate is incorrectly often given as June 11, 1895.

Ce joueur de grande taille, de parents islandais, était le capitaine et la star de l'équipe canadienne des JO 1920. Virtuose avec le palet, maître contre-attaquant, il était le chef d'orchestre offensif de toutes les équipes qu'il représenta, tout en sachant défendre et même jouer au poste d'arrière.
Lieutenant de la Royal Air Force en Égypte pendant la Première Guerre mondiale, devenu instructeur de vol.
Mélomane, il était passionné de violon. Il confia son instrument au capitaine d'un canot de sauvetage dans lequel il ne put monter quand son navire fut coulé par une torpille allemande pendant la guerre. Il put prendre un autre canot.
Premier joueur, avec son coéquipier Slim Halderson, à avoir remporté à la fois l'or olympique et une Coupe Stanley (en 1925 avec les Vicoria Cougars). Il était alors le meilleur centre de la ligue professionnelle de l'ouest.
Quand l'équipe de Victoria fut rachetée par la NHL pour devenir les Detroit Cougars, il fut vite échangé aux Boston Bruins et marqua quatre buts à son premier match pour eux.
Son nom fut gravé une seconde fois sur la Coupe Stanley en 1929 mais il avait en fait été échangé en cours de saison de Boston à Pittsburgh.
Il dut prendre sa retraite à 36 ans après une blessure à la jambe. Devint entraîneur et arbitre pour les activités "hockeyistiques". Également doué en lacrosse.
Dans la vie civile, il fut assureur pour la ville de Vancouver. Finit sa vie presque aveugle et mourut dans la maison de sa fille.
Introduit au Hall of Fame du hockey.
Sa date de naissance est parfois située (par erreur) au 11 juin 1895.
