Born in Dauphin, Manitoba (Rorketon according to his passport), the family moved to Portage La Prairie when he was one year old.
During WW II Roy Forbes had his plane shot down but managed to avoid being captured by the Germans for two weeks, eating grass to survive, before being rescued.
Was part of the 1948 Canadian Olympic team but never dressed for any of the games. He was hampered by an infected foot and recovered from that on the way to Europe.
In a 2008 interview he was asked what was his fondest memory from the 1948 Olympics was. Forbes said that it was the actual medal ceremony. At the medal presentation the organizers played the "Maple Leaf Forever" (unofficial anthem). It came down from the embassy in Switzerland: they had asked for the Canadian anthem and they sent "Maple Leaf Forever" instead.

Il est né à Dauphin dans le Manitoba (à Rorketon selon son passeport), sa famille a déménagé à Portage La Prairie quand il avait un an.
Engagé sur le front aérien de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il vit son avion abattu mais parvint tout de même à échapper aux Allemands en se cachant pendant deux semaines, réduit à manger de l'herbe, jusqu'à recevoir du secours allié.
Sélectionné pour l'équipe canadienne des JO 1948, il ne figura sur aucune feuille de match à cause d'une infection au pied dont il venait à peine de guérir pendant le voyage.
En 2008, invité à confier son meilleur souvenir olympique, il évoqua la cérémonie de remise des médailles au cours de laquelle on joua Maple Leaf Forever, hymne non officiel envoyé par l'ambassade canadienne en Suisse à la place de l'hymnne national demandé (qui était alors God Save the Queen).
Installé à partir de 1974 à Winfield, en Colombie-Britannique.
