Younger brother of Andrzej Fonfara. First played street hockey on the Dąbrówki street in Katowice together with his brothers. Began skating at an early age. Played for Start Katowice until 1960 before moving to Gornik Katowice where he played until 1970.
After that he played for Janow and ended his playing career in Sosnowiec. Represented Poland 30 times.

Petit frère d'Andrzej Fonfara, il apprend le hockey avec ses frères rue Dąbrówki dans sa ville natale de Katowice. Logiquement, il débute pour un club local, le Start, qu'il représente jusqu'en 1960 avant de rejoindre le Górnik Katowice, dont il porte le maillot jusqu'en 1970.
Joue ensuite à Janów et Sosnowiec. Trente sélections nationales.
