Played both hockey and football as a young kid. Began playing hockey for ASK but came to Dynamo Weißwasser’s junior team on October 1, 1960.
Represented East Germany 126 times. Retired in 1976. Became a physical educator and a hockey coach.

Débute, comme de nombreux enfants, en pratiquant foot et hockey. Débute crosse à la main pour l'ASK mais rejoint à même pas treize ans les rangs des jeunes du Dynamo Weißwasser.
Perce bien vite et accumulera 126 sélections internationales pour la RDA jusqu'à sa retraite en 1976. Devenu éducateur physique et entraîneur de hockey.
