Both of his parents were born in Ireland and came to the United States in 1912.
In the 1940s he was an All-state goaltender at Medford High School.
Captained Dartmouth College in 1948-49 and was named MVP of the NCAA finals. Had a career GAA of 2.98.
Played incredibly well at the 1950 World Championships and was their MVP.
Worked as a salesman. Later moved to California. Inducted into the US Hockey Hall of Fame.

A joué incroyablement bien aux championnats du monde 1950 où il fut le meilleur joueur de l'équipe américaine.
