Older brother of Brian Carr-Harris, who was killed in a plane crash 1942. A third brother, Ernest was killed in action while in Africa (Tanzania).
Lorne Howland Carr-Harris was born in Hull/Ottawa but grew up in Kingston, ON. His father, Robert Carr-Harris was an engineer and lecturer at Queen's university.
His mother Bertha (nee Wright) was a direct descendent of Philemon Wright, the first white man to settle in the region which is now Ottawa/Hull (a statue of him can be found in Hull).
Described as an outgoing and cheerful person. Was a soldier stationed in England, the same country where his grandfather and father hailed from. While serving in the military he was stationed in India for 13 years.
His three children were all born there. Returned from india at the outbreak of WW II in 1939. He saw action in North Africa and Italy where he commanded a Medium artillery as a colonel. Awarded the order of the British Empire in 1945 for Gallant and Distinguished service (Major). Returned to Canada, taking up farming near Woodstock, ON. Later employed as Proof officer with the Department of National Defence near Nicolet, QC.
Worked there until his retirement in 1960 and moved to Britain. In England he bought a cottage near Wittersham, Kent. Returned to Canada in 1966. When his wife died in 1980 he joined the rest of his family in Williamstown, ON.
His son John Carr-Harris also played professional hockey in later years.
Passed away at the Cornwall General Hospital.

Son petit frère, Brian Carr-Harris, également hockeyeur, mourut dans un accident d'aviation en 1942. Un troisième frère, Ernest, fut tué au combat dans l'actuelle Tanzanie.
Lorne Howland Carr-Harris naquit dans le secteur de Hull/Ottawa, à la limite entre Ontario et Québec, mais grandit dans l'Ontario même, à Kingston. Son père Robert, un ingénieur, enseignait à la Queen's University de Kingston.
Sa mère, Bertha Wright de son nom de jeune fille, descendait directement de Philemon Wright, premier colon blanc du secteur Hull/Ottawa, pour lequel une statue a été érigée à Hull.
On se remémore Lorne comme quelqu'un d'enthousiaste et convivial. Devenu soldat, il fut d'abord cantonné en Angleterre, dont étaient originaires son grand-père et son propre père. Transféré en Inde pendant pour un séjour de treize ans qui prit fin avec le début de la Deuxième guerre mondiale.
Envoyé sur les fronts d'Afrique du Nord et d'Italie, où il était colonel d'artillerie. Décoré en 1945 de l'Ordre de l'Empire britannique (OBE) pour services exceptionnels. Retourna ensuite au Canada où il exploita une ferme près de Woodstock, toujours dans l'Ontario. Bref retour dans l'armée, au Département de défense nationale installé à Nicolet, Québec, jusque sa retraite en 1960.
Retourna en Angleterre où il fit l'acquisition d'un cottage près de Wittersham, dans le Kent. Cet épisode ne dura que six ans et il remit définitivement au Canada en 1966. Devenu veuf à 81 ans, il rejoignit le reste de sa famille à Williamstown, Ontario, pour y décéder un an plus tard, au Cornwall General Hospital.
Son fils John aura un bref parcours de hockeyeur professionnel.
