Skilled defenseman with an offensive upside. Was a very smooth skater with soft hands.
Fairly physical and liked to check opposing players hard into the boards.
Was a teammate of Wayne Gretzky in the 1970s when he played for the Nadrofsky Steelers in Brantford.
He was a four time IHL All-Star and was voted as the best defenseman in the league on three occasions.
After a few NHL-camps and nine years in the minors, he decided to explore the European market which suited his playing style perfectly.
Came to Austria in the late 1980s and stayed there for eight seasons, even gaining an Austrian passport, thus having dual citizenships.
His highlight was scoring a goal against the Russians at the 1994 Olympics.
Scored 1160 (278+882) career points in 1225 games. Retired in 1997.
Coached in the minor leagues and also was the director of hockey operations.
He ran a flower business with his wife in Evans, Georgia.
Burton passed away of a massive heart attack.

Défenseur doué avec des attributs offensifs. Il était un patineur très élégant avec de bonnes mains.
Assez physique et aimant les rudes mises en échec des adversaires contre la bande.
Il fut un coéquipier de Wayne Gretzky dans les années 1970 qaund il jouait pour les Nadrofsky Steelers à Brantford.
Il fut quatre fois All-Star IHL et désigné meilleur défenseur de la ligue à trois reprises.
Après quelques camps NHL et neuf ans en ligues mineures, il décida d'explorer le marché européen qui correspondait à merveille à son style de jeu.
Il arriva en Autriche à la fin des années 1980 et y resta huit saisons, obtenant un passeport autichien, et donc la double nationalité.
Son principal fait d'armes est d'avoir marqué un but aux Russes lors des JO de 1994.
Il totalisa 1160 (278+882) points en 1225 matchs dans sa carrière. Retraité en 1997.
Il entraîna dans des ligues mineures et fut également directeur des opérations hockey.
Il était fleuriste avec son épouse à Evans, en Georgie.
Burton est décédé d'une attaque cardiaque.
