Born in Bad Tölz and raised in nearby Greiling together with his three sisters.
Played as a junior for EC Bad Tölz before joining BSC Preussen Berlin in 1985 on the recommendation of his uncle Lorenz Funk.
Best scorer of the 1987 World Junior Championships, Pool B.
Five-time German league champion with Düsseldorfer EG. Formed a dangerous line there together with Canadians Peter John Lee and Chris Valentine.
Scored 387 (150+237) career points in 492 Bundesliga/DEL games.
Represented Germany 42 times, 19 points (9+10). Retired in 2001. Became a hockey coach.
