Did not stand out in any particular area. Was pretty solid all-around and uncomfortable to play against for any opposing forwards.
Quite a tough and agile player. Good puck carrier.
Did not shy away from using „dirty“ tactics if he felt it was warranted. Known to cut out the palm out of his gloves to facilitate a sneaky kind of holding.
A freethinker who often went his own way, and was not popular among league owners and other powerful hockey personalities.
Three-time Stanley Cup winner (1962, 1963, 1964). Named to the NHL First All-Star Team in 1963 and to the Second All-Star Team in 1962, 1965 and 1970.
Because his conflicts with the NHL, he played two years with Team Canada (1966 and 1967), then became player-coach in a minor league (IHL). He didn't relinquish the NHL comfort and explained the long bus trips gave him time to read.
Refused a NHL contract (from Detroit) again and went to Helsinki to play for HIFK in 1968/69. Helped develop Finnish ice hockey during his brief stay.
First retired in 1974. Made a comeback in 1979 and played one season.
Controversial player agent and union leader Alan Eagleson was jailed largely thanks to Brewer’s efforts.
Owned and operated Chick'n'Deli Restaurant in Toronto.
Inducted into the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame.

Il n'avait pas de point fort particulier, mais un niveau global solide et difficile à jouer pour les attaquants adverses.
Joueur rugueux mais agile. Bonne tenue du palet.
Il n'hésitait pas à utiliser de "sales" tactiques s'il estimait que ça se justifiait. Connu pour découper la paume de ses gants pour pouvoir retenir de manière sournoise.
Un libre penseur qui a souvent suivi son propre chemin, bien peu populaire auprès des propriétaires de la ligue et d'autres personnalités du hockey.
Triple vainqueur de la Coupe Stanley (1962, 1963, 1964). Nommé dans la première équipe-étoile de NHL en 1963 et dans la seconde équipe-étoile en 1962, 1965 et 1970.
En désaccord avec la NHL, il joue deux ans pour le Team Canada en 1966 et 1967, puis s'engage comme entraîneur-joueur en ligue mineure en IHL, expliquant ne pas regretter le confort de la NHL parce que les longs voyages en bus lui donnaient du temps pour lire.
Refusant encore un contrat NHL (de Détroit), il s'engage à Helsinki pour le HIFK en 1968/69 et aide au développement du hockey en Finlande lors de ce bref séjour.
Retraité une première fois en 1974, il fit un retour en 1979 et rejoua une saison.
Le controversé agent de joueurs et leader syndical Alan Eagleson a été emprisonné en grande partie du fait de la persévérance de Brewer.
Il a aidé au développement du hockey en Finlande lors de son bref séjour là-bas dans les années 1960.
Il a ouvert et a tenu un restaurant Chick'n'Deli à Toronto.
Intronisé parmi les Lions du hockey finlandais (Jääkiekkoleijona, numéro 147).
223 points (25+198) en 604 parties de saison régulière de NHL.
