Began playing ice hockey at the age of seven.
Was recruited by a junior team in Canada when he was 15.
A graduate in anthropology from Harvard University.
He died in the crash of TWA Flight 800 off Long Island, New York.
The plane was on its way to Rome from New York when it exploded in the air off Long Island.
The plane crashed 12 minutes after takeoff, killing all 230 persons on board, including Breistroff.
His fiancee, whom he proposed to from the airport just minutes before boarding the plane, created ACCESS (AirCraft Casualty Emotional Support Services), an American nonprofit support group based in New York that helps surviving family members of aircraft crash victims.
His number 27 sweater was retired for good by Gothiques d’Amiens.
