Younger brother of Erhard Braun. Started ice hockey at 6.
Played his club hockey for Crimmitschau (1960-70) and Dynamo Weißwasser (1970-83) when the league was reduced to two teams.
First player to break the glass in an international tournament with a slapshot, during 1969Pool B World Championships. The organizers didn't expect such a thing could happen but they could repair it within half an hour.
Six-time league champion. Represented East Germany 270 times.
Best defenseman at the 1972 Pool B World Championships, and voted to the All-Star Team in 1977.
Weißwasser open air ice rink manager from 1987 to his retirement in 2013.
Came back during two years (1991-1993) to play with his son Marco for his hometown Crimmitschau where ice hockey could reemerge after German reunification.
Inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame. His grandsons Morten and Marlon also play hockey and wear number 6 like him.

Frère cadet d'Erhard Braun. Il a commencé le hockey sur glace à 6 ans.
Il joua pour l'ASK Vorwärts Crimmitschau (1960-70) puis au Dynamo Weißwasser (1970-83) lorsque les autorités réduisirent le championnat à deux clubs.
Premier joueur à avoir brisé un plexi pendant un tournoi international avec un slap, lors du Mondial B 1969 à Ljubljana. Les organisateurs ne pensaient pas un tel accident possible mais ont remplacé le panneau cassé en une demi-heure.
Six titres de champion de RDA. Sélectionné avec l'Allemagne de l'Est 270 fois.
Meilleur défenseur du Mondial B 1972, désigné dans l'équipe-type du Mondial B 1977.
Responsable de la patinoire en plein air de Weißwasser - réputée pour son excellente glace - de 1987 à sa retraite en 2013.
Revenu au jeu pendant deux ans (1991-1993) pour jouer avec son fils Marco dans sa ville natale Crimmitschau où le hockey sur glace a pu renaître après la réunification de l'Allemagne.
Intronisé au Hall of Fame du hockey allemand. Ses petits-fils Morten et Marlon jouent aussi au hockey et portent le numéro 6 comme lui.
