Pretty small D-man who compensated the lack of size with smartness and level-headed play.
His father was the first manager of boxer Roger Menetrey (European welterweight champion) who trained his whole career in Annecy.
Stéphane started ice hockey in Annecy at the age of 11. He spent one season in Chamonix hockey and studies program (1974/75).
He eventually left Annecy to join Saint-Gervais in 1976/77 and started his senior career there.
Won the trophée Albert Hassler as the best player in France 1986. Four-time league champion.
In almost 600 games he scored more than 100 goals and 300 points.
Retired in 2001 and went on to coach the Megève juniors.

Défenseur plutôt petit (1m76) qui avait souvent fort à faire avec des attaquants plus lourds que lui.
Doté de beaucoup de vivacité, il compensait son manque de gabarit par son intelligence et son jeu tête haute.
Son père était le premier manager du boxeur Roger Menetrey (champion d'Europe des poids welters) qui s'entraîna toute sa carrière à Annecy.
Stéphane commença le hockey à Annecy à 11 ans. Il passa une saison en sports-études à Chamonix (1974/75).
Il quitta définitivement Annecy pour Saint-Gervais en 1976/77 et lança sa carrière sénior dans ce club.
Vainqueur du trophée Albert Hassler du meilleur joueur français en 1986.
Champion de France 1986 avec Saint-Gervais, 1987 avec Mont-Blanc, 1989 avec les Français Volants et 1992 avec Rouen.
En 600 matchs environ il a inscrit plus de 100 buts et 300 points.
Retraité en 2001, il est devenu entraîneur des juniors de Megève.
