Began playing for Latvijas Bērzā in 1976, making his debut for the senior team in 1985/86.
Offensive and creatively gifted player. Technically very skilled. Good goal-scoring ability.
Represented Latvia 68 times, scoring 73 points (36+37).
His light frame (176 cm, 77 kg) limited him at elite level. He accomplished his defensive tasks in the third line in 1997 World Championships when Latvia broke into group A but was never called again.
Played his last 13 seasons in lower German leagues, plus one season in Denmark. Retired in 2008.

Il commença à jouer pour le Latvijas Bērzā en 1976, et fit ses débuts sénior en 1985/86.
Joueur offensif et possédant un don de créativité. Techniquement très doué, bon buteur.
68 sélections en équipe de Lettonie, 73 points (36+37).
Il montra ses limites quand la Lettonie atteignit le niveau élite à cause de son gabarit léger (176 cm, 77 kg). Il dut donc se contenter de jouer un seul Mondial A, même s'il y a accompli ses tâches défensives en troisième ligne.
Il a joué ses 13 dernières saisons dans les ligues inférieures allemandes, plus une saison au Danemark (1997/98 à Vojens). Retraité en 2008.
