Bögelsack, Friedhelm ("Fiete")

Position : LW

25-09-1955 Greifswald, GDR (GER)

Youth team / club formateur : SC Dynamo Berlin

Stalwart winger who had a long and productive playing career both at club level and on the international stage.
His sport teacher Paul-Friedrich ("Fiete") Reder, a former international handball player, recognized him as an equall athlete and gave him the same nickname "Fiete".
Made his league debut in 1974. Won twelve East German league titles. Represented East Germany 188 times.
In 1989, he was a photographer during a tournament in Berlin when a few journalists asked him if he'd like to play again.
He answered he didn't want to, unless a proposal would come from a foreign club. His words were published in a newspaper.
Yet, West Germany was a foreign land then. Hanovre was the first club to call him. The rink scared him at first, until it was packed from enthusiastic fans.
He remained in Hanover and played his last season in DEL in 1994/95. He stayed in hockey working at the front office, as a trainer or sports manager.
Inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame.

Or, l'Allemagne de l'ouest était alors "l'étranger".
