Born in Regina, SK, Canada, but moved to Cranston, RI, USA when he was three months old. Came from a hockey family. His father Harvey Sr. was an NHL-goaltender as well as his older brother Harvey Jr., and younger brother Bill. A third brother, Wendell played in the WHA.
His mother wanted him to become a tennis player, his father a hockey player.
Size and strength were his biggest assets. Always in great shape.
Held a black belt in karate and often practiced yoga before games.
Was an All-American defenseman at Brown University.
Was a pretty versatile player who could play on the left wing, center and defense.
Aggressive player but didn’t take stupid penalties.
Strong on the puck and wasn’t pushed around.
First American-born and -bred player to score more than 30 goals in an NHL season.
Liked to travel all around the world, and when he got an offer to finish his career in Japan with his brother Harvey Jr., he accepted. Stayed there for two years and retired in 1982.
Worked in real estate in the Atlanta area. Later moved to Hawaii.

Il a obtenu une ceinture noire de karaté et il pratiquait souvent le yoga avant les matchs.
Il fut un défenseur de l'équipe-type nationale pendant son passage à la Brown University.
C'était un joueur polyvalent qui pouvait jouer ailier gauche, centre ou défenseur.
Joueur aggressif mais qui ne prenait pas de pénalités stupides.
Fort avec le palet, il ne se faisait pas bousculer facilement.
Il fut le premier joueur né et formé aux États-Unis à inscrire plus de 30 buts dans une saison NHL.
Il aimait voyager à travers le monde, et quand il reçut une offre pour terminer sa carrière au Japon avec son frère Harvey Jr., il accepta. Il y resta deux ans et prit sa retraite en 1982.
Il travailla dans l'immobilier dans la région d'Atlanta. Plus tard il partit pour Hawaï.
334 points (152+182) en 580 parties de saison régulière de NHL.
