He was the son of a lawyer who died when Baker was only 5 years old.
Served as the backup goaltender at the 1936 Olympics. The regular goalie Tom Moone had taken sick before the American team left to take the boat across to the Continent. The coach Albert Prettyman got hold of Frank Baker whom he coached in college and asked him if he would like to join the team overseas as a backup.
Baker was the only player on the American team that spoke German. He had studied German at college in Hamilton and it came to good use in Garmisch. Baker spoke to Adolf Hitler and told him that the Americans would always beat Germany.
He graduated in 1937, earning a medical degree and joined the U.S. Army Medical Corps in 1941.
At that point he had just graduated from the University of Rochester School of Medicine.
Baker landed on Normandy beach on D-Day.
After the war he worked 25 years as an orthopedic surgeon in upstate New York (Plattsburgh).
In 1975 he moved to Detroit to do medical-legal work.
At age 80, he left Detroit and retired to Florida, where he continued to practice medical hypnosis until 1995.

Deuxième gardien aux Jeux olympiques 1936. Le titulaire Tom Moone était tombé malade avant que l'équipe américaine embarque sur le bateau transatlantique. Le coach Albert Prettyman a pris contact avec Frank Baker, qu'il a entraîné à l'université, pour lui demander de se joindre à l'équipe comme doublure.
Baker était le seul joueur de l'équipe des États-Unis qui parlait allemand. Il avait étudié l'allemand à l'université à Hamilton et cela lui a servi à Garmisch. Baker a parlé à Adolf Hitler et lui a dit que les Américains battraient toujours l'Allemagne.
Il a reçu son diplôme médical en 1937 et a rejoint le corps médical de l'armée américaine en 1941. Il venait alors de recevoir un diplôme de l'école de médecine de l'université de Rochester.
Baker a débarqué sur les plages de Normandie le jour du débarquement.
Après-guerre il a travaillé 25 ans comme chirurgien orthopédique dans le nord de l'État de New York (Plattsburgh).
En 1975 il a déménagé à Detroit où il a travaillé comme médecin-légiste.
À 80 ans, il a quitté Detroit pour prendre sa retraite en Floride, où il a continué à pratiquer l'hypnose médicale jusqu'en 1995.
