Began as a junior playing for Westfalen Dortmund.
Grew up idolizing old Latvian international Erich Konecki who later coached in Dortmund.
Was plagued by injuries early on in his playing career (i.e. breaking his leg in 1973).
Retired as a player in 1987.
Worked as a dentist after his playing career ended.
His son Nils who also played hockey became the team dentist for the German national team.

A commencé en tant que jeune à jouer pour le Westfalen Dortmund.
A grandi en étant un fan de l'ancien international letton Erich Konecki qui a ensuite entraîné Dortmund.
A été rongé par les blessures très tôt dans sa carrière (il s'est par exemple cassé la jambe en 1973).
A pris sa retraite de joueur en 1987.
A travaillé comme dentiste après sa carrière de joueur.
Son fils Nils, qui a aussi joué au hockey, est devenu le dentiste de l'équipe nationale allemande.
