Devant plus de 10 000 personnes, Sheffield conclut l'année 1995 en beauté en remportant la Coupe grâce à un triplé de Tony Hand. Une controverse naît de la décision de faire jouer le Canadien Wayne Cowley comme titulaire dans les buts à la place du fidèle Écossais Martin McKay, un symbole de la place de plus en plus réduite accordée aux joueurs locaux, qui n'auront bientôt plus droit au chapitre avec l'avènement de la Superleague. L'entraîneur de Sheffield, Alex Dampier, décrira ce choix comme le plus difficile de sa carrière dans ce club.
