Like many Soviet players of that time, he began playing football and bandy hockey with a ball before playing hockey with a puck.
Swiftskating winger with tremendous speed and nifty moves. The speed was his trademark as he was probably the fastest Soviet skater in the 1950s. Formed a dangerous line with Yuri Krylov and Aleksandr Uvarov.
Captained Dynamo Moscow. Played 255 league games, scoring 156 goals. Represented Soviet Union 50 times (27 goals). Retired in 1961 and worked as a toolmaker.
Inducted into the Russian Hockey Hall of Fame.

Comme la plupart des premiers internationaux soviétiques, il a débuté sa carrière sportive par le football l'été et le bandy l'hiver.
Ailier à l'excellent patinage, rapide et insaisissable. Il fut probablement le patineur soviétique le plus rapide des années 50. Son trio en compagnie de Yuri Krylov et Aleksandr Uvarov donnait des cauchemars aux adversaires.
Capitaine du Dynamo Moscou, 255 matches de championnat soviétique, 156 buts. 50 sélections nationales, 27 buts. Arrête le jeu à 35 ans et reprend son activité civile, celle de machiniste.
Introduit au Hall of Fame du hockey russe.
