Gregor Krajnc

Krajnc, Gregor

Position : LW

27-01-1976 Ljubljana, YUG (SLO)

Youth team / club formateur : Olimpija Ljubljana

His older brother Aleš was a huge inspiration for Gregor growing up. As a child his brother Aleš was paralyzed for a while and while he was recovering, doctors recommended that he should activate himself with sports. Aleš did that and began playing hockey, representing the Yugoslavian U-20 team.
Went over to British Columbia in Canada in the mid 1990s, where he played junior hockey on a team together with two other Slovenian players, Jaka Avgustinčič and Klemen Kelgar. Gregor spent a total of eight seasons playing hockey in North America. Earned a degree in marketing from Miami University in Ohio.
Unfortunately he had to retire in 2003 due to a mysterious illness that left him strengthless. Gregor also suffered from sudden weightloss, muscle spasms and cramps. The diagnosis was that he had a type of motor neuron failure, a progressive neurologic disorder. The diagnosis wasn’t completely accurate because he recovered fully after battling it for a decade.
He later became an assistant coach for Triglav Kranj.
