He turned down a two-year NHL contract with the New York Rangers in order to accept a scholarship to the University of Denver in the fall of 1957. He became a star defenseman at University of Denver.
His versatility enabled him to play on the left wing as well. Became a naturalized American citizen. Voted as the best defenseman at the 1970 Pool B World Championships. Also made the All-Star team in 1970.
Retired from hockey in 1973. He went on to work as an electrical engineer at Honeywell Corporation before founding George Konik Associates, a contract engineering firm in Minnesota. In 2000 he sold the company to his son Brad.
Suffered from Parkinson’s Disease and dementia for the last 17 years of his life.

A l'automne 1957, ce Canadien naturalisé américain prit la décision rare de refuser un contrat professionnel de deux ans en NHL des Rangers pour accepter une bourse de l'Université de Denver, dont il devint une vedette à la ligne bleue.
Meilleur défenseur des Mondiaux B 1970, élu dans l'équipe-type. Pouvait jouer à l'aile gauche.
Court passage par la NHL en 1967-68 avec les Penguins. Finit sa carrière en 73 par une saison en WHA. Devient alors ingénieur en installations électriques pour une entreprise nommée Honeywell Corp., avant de fonder sa propre société d'ingénierie dans l'État du Minnesota. En 2000, âgé de 63 ans et atteint de la maladie de Parkinson, il cède l'entreprise à son fils Brad. Vivra pendant 17 ans avec ce syndrome avant de s'éteindre en 2016.
