Interesting background. Ethnic Russian born in Estonia due to his father playing hockey there. But he was raised in a Swedish speaking town in Finland when his father relocated. Began playing ice hockey there at the age of five. As a kid he moved to the Swedish-speaking town of Nykarleby, Finland. Dual citizen of Finland and Russia.
Gritty, tough and hardnosed winger with good speed and a never say die attitude. Player with a physical edge. Trash-talker who took unnecessary penalties in the past. Fairly good shot and an even better skater.

Son ascendance est originale puisqu'il est d'origine russe, né en Estonie à l'époque soviétique car son père jouait au hockey là-bas. Il fut cependant élevé dans une ville suédophone de Finlande, Nykarleby, quand son père fut engagé par le MuIK. C'est d'ailleurs là que Leonid débuta le hockey à l'âge de cinq ans. La patinoire du MuIK s'appelle désormais la Komarov Arena, en hommage à ce citoyen finno-russe devenu international pour les Leijonat.
Cet ailier est l'archétype du joueur teigneux et pénible, rapide, bon shooteur et patineur, qui ne renonce jamais. Surtout physique dans son expression, une expression d'ailleurs pas toujours châtiée, ce qui lui valut des tonnes de pénalités pour indiscipline.
