Grew up on a small farm outside Grassy Lake, and was one of 10 children. They played baseball and hockey against each other from an early age. Played baseball in the old Southern Alberta Baseball League. Attended the Morning Star Country High School.
Played on a line with Nap Milroy and Lou Siray for the Lethbridge Maple Leafs in 1949 when they won the Western Canada Intermediate Championship. Could play on both wings.
Started and operated a hardware business (Bow Island Hardway) in 1956 that he remained active with until his passing. Received the Canadian Lifestyle Award in 1977, given to one person in each community who worked through the health and fitness program to promote that lifestyle. In 1983 he was chosen as the Bow Island citizen of the year, presented to "those who have given outstanding service to the community above and beyond what would be expected of a successful person as part of his or her business or vocation".
Passed away at the Bow Island Health Centre.

Issu d'une famille de dix enfants élevés dans une petite ferme de Grassy Lake, dans l'Alberta. Avec ses frères et soeurs, il s'exerce au hockey et au baseball et commence par ce dernier sport en participant à la défunte Southern Alberta Baseball League. Se met au hockey à partir de son passage au lycée de Morning Star Country.
Jouait sur la ligne de Nap Milroy et Lou Siray chez les Lethbridge Maple Leafs quand ils remportèrent le championnat intermédiaire de l'Ouest du Canada. Knibbs occupait indifféremment les deux ailes.
Sur un plan professionnel, il fonde en 1956 une entreprise de quincaillerie et outillage (Bow Island Hardway) dont il s'occupera jusqu'à son décès en 1998, à l'hôpital de Bow Island.
Distingué en 1977 par le Canadian Lifestyle Award destiné à récompenser chaque année plusieurs participants actifs à ce programme de santé publique. En 1983, Bow Island le consacre "citoyen de l'année" pour avoir rendu service à sa ville "bien au-delà de ce qui est attendu d'une personne qui s'engage dans sa seule carrière ou entreprise".
