Evan Kaufmann

Kaufmann, Evan

Position : C/RW

31-10-1984 Tonka Bay, MN, USA

Youth team / club formateur : University of Minnesota

Rather small forward with excellent skating abilities. Often used to kill penalties due to his speed. Trouble handling bigger defensemen in the physical department, although always a willing combatant. Good at reading the plays.
Went undrafted in the NHL due to his size and moved to Europe where there is less emphasis on size. Made his debut on the German National team on February 10, 2012.
One of few German national team players of Jewish origin. His grandparents originated from Wittlich, three hours south of Düsseldorf in Germany. His great-grandfather was starved to death by the Nazis and his great-grandmother herded to extermination on a train to Auschwitz. His grandfather shuttled between ghettos and concentration camps, found his displaced sister after the war, pushing her from a Berlin hospital in a wheelbarrow after her lower left leg was amputated because of frostbite.
Announced his retirement on July 28, 2015.
