Very good skater and one of the few on the Canadian national team in the 1960s who could keep up with the Europeans skating-wise. Like the rest of his teammates he was utterly disappointed by the treatment the Canadians got in the international tournaments. When Canada were relegated to fourth place in one of the tournaments after a political decision he looked at his coach, Father Bauer and said: "The shepherd and his flock have just been fleeced".
Retired as a player in 1974. Later followed in Father Bauer’s footsteps and coached the Canadian national Team 1978, 1979 and 1982. More than 30 years of NHL experience as a general manager, assistant general manager, director of player personnel, scouting combine executive director, head coach, assistant coach and player (seven NHL seasons). Involved with Colorado Rockies/New Jersey, Chicago, Ottawa and Carolina.
Inducted into the IIHF Hockey Hall of Fame.

Très bon patineur, un des seuls Canadiens de son temps à pouvoir rivaliser dans ce domaine avec les Européens. Souvent frustré par l'arbitrage lors des tournois internationaux auxquels il prenait part avec le Team Canada, il dit au fameux Père Bauer, lors des Jeux d'Innsbruck en 1964 où le Canada fut relégué à la quatrième place sur une interprétation controversée du règlement: "le berger et ses brebis sont sagement rentrés dans le rang".
Arrête de jouer en 1974 et suit les traces du Père Bauer en prenant les rênes de l'équipe du Canada en 1978, 1979 et 1982. Compte plus de trois décennies de NHL en tant que manager général, manager général adjoint, directeur sportif, entraîneur, entraîneur-adjoint, directeur du recrutement et joueur (sept saisons). Sera passé par les Colorado Rockies/New Jersey Devils, Chicago, Ottawa et Carolina.
66 points (14+52) en 251 parties de saison régulière de NHL.
Introduit au Hall of Fame de l'IIHF.
