Brother of Buzz Johnson. Son of Alfred Melvin Johnson and Mabel Ione Frances Sybil DeLapp. His paternal grandfather was from Sweden and the grandmother from Norway.
A flawless skater and excellent scorer. Played junior hockey in Canada for the Edmonton Canadians and Edmonton Maple Leafs. "Prince" later frequently led University of North Dakota in scoring and for a long time his scoring feats were in the Sioux record book. "Prince" lettered in 1948/49 and again in 1949/50. Also played as a pro for Toledo Mercurys (IHL) in the late 1940s.

Frère de Buzz Johnson, fils d'Alfred Melvin Johnson et de Mabel Ione Frances Sybil DeLapp (respirez !), et petit-fils d'immigrés scandinaves (Suède et Norvège) aux États-Unis.
Patineur et buteur de haut niveau qui passa par l'école canadienne (Edmonton Canadians et Edmonton Maple Leafs) lors de ses années juniors. Une fois revenu dans son Dakota du Nord natal, il se fit meilleur pointeur de l'Université locale, au point de figurer pendant longtemps dans ses registres historiques. Joua également en pro en IHL (Toledo Mercurys) à la fin des années 40.
