Raised in a hockey family. His father Jack Johnson Sr. was drafted in the NHL by Chicago 1973. His uncle and brother also played hockey. Jack Johnson Jr. was highly touted as a junior, being drafted third overall by Carolina in 2005.
Incredible skater with good size and excellent all-around instincts, physical prowess and offensive upside. Better than average for a defenseman when in alone against the goaltender. Used to get caught out of position in order to land the big hit.

Issu d'une famille de hockeyeurs, où le paternel (Jack Johnson Sr.) fut drafté par Chicago en 1973, et où l'oncle et un frère sont également montés sur la glace.
Junior très prometteur, Jack Johnson le fils fut drafté en troisième position par Carolina en 2005. Distinction justifiée pour défenseur offensif (très bon en un-contre-un face au gardien), patineur d'excellent niveau, costaud, bien taillé et physiquement étonnant. Parfois tellement tenté par la perspective d'une belle mise en échec qu'il en perd son positionnement.
