Very hard competitor. Small (173 cm) but powerful and fearless hitter. Blocked the hardest shots.
Voted best Norwegian hockey player in 2003 and 2005.
Best defenceman in B-pool or division I World Championships in 1998, 2003 and 2005.
Carried the Norwegian flag at the opening ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
At the 2010 World Championships he captained Norway and got suspended for the remainder of the tournament for physically abusing an official. He received a match misconduct for having made shoulder-to-shoulder contact with a referee at the center ice faceoff spot. He was angry that a Canadian player was not given a slashing penalty in a scrum in front of the Norwegian net. The IIHF disciplinary panel ruled that the contact wasn’t accidental as Jakobsen had asserted and suspended him.
He retired from the Norwegian national team as the most capped player.

Petite boule de muscles (173 cm, 86 kg) qui abandonna son métier d'installateur pour faire carrière comme hockeyeur professionnel.
Compétiteur acharné, toujours prêt à se sacrifier pour bloquer les tirs et n'ayant peur de personne sur les mises en échec. Parfois imprécis.
Champion de Norvège 1990 (avec son club formateur Furuset) et 1994 (avec Lillehammer).
Élu meilleur joueur norvégien en 2003 et 2005. Meilleur défenseur du Mondial B (ou de division I) en 1998, 2003 et 2005.
Premier hockeyeur à être porte-drapeau de la Norvège, aux JO 2010 de Vancouver, il connaîtra une sacrée mésaventure lors de Mondiaux de la même année. Bien que portant le C, il fut suspendu pour tout le tournoi après s'être adressé un peu trop vigoureusement à l'arbitre d'un Canada-Norvège qui, selon lui, aurait dû sanctionner un adversaire pour cinglage. Le contact épaule contre épaule avec l'officiel s'étant produit dans le cercle d'engagement, Jakobsen plaida l'innocence, mais le conseil de discipline de l'IIHF ne voulut rien entendre.
Joueur le plus sélectionné de l'histoire de l'équipe de Norvège au moment de sa retraite.
