Was noted early on as one of the few players in his time being able to lift the pucks above the ice with his shots. Could also play a rough brand of hockey at times, and was banned from playing for parts of the 1909/10 due to his rough play. Was the reserve player on the German team at the 1910 and 1912 European Championships. Highly decorated in WW I and recieved the Iron Cross for his efforts. Sometimes also identified as "Emil Jacob".
Inducted into the German and IIHF Hockey Hall of Fame.

Resté célèbre pour avoir été un des premiers joueurs de l'histoire capable de lancers assez puissants pour décoller le palet de la glace. Avait aussi une réputation de brutalité, ce qui lui valut une suspension partielle pendant la saison 1909-1910. Sélectionné comme remplaçant dans les équipes allemandes des Euro 1910 et 1912. Décoré de la Croix de Fer pour services rendus à l'armée allemande lors de la Première guerre mondiale. On le désigne parfois sous le nom d'"Emil Jacob".
Introduit au Hall of Fame du hockey allemand.
