Hoorickx was a student of the Allgemeine Deutsche Schule in Antwerp until the war of 1914.
He continued his studies in the Netherlands where his parents had moved because of the war.
He was always fascinated by contemporary artistic movements.
Aside from this he was also an enthusiastic hockey player, so good in fact that he was selected to represent Belgium (as a substitute) at the 1928 Winter Olympics in St.Moritz.
He eventually graduated from the Antwerp School of Tropical Medicine.
Was also an importer of petroleum products. Hoorickx was a volunteer in the Belgian Army.
In 1940 he was placed at the arsenal of Tarbes, in the High Pyrenees.
Got imprisoned (Brussels, Berlin, Leitmeritz, Görlitz, Dresden, Prague, Linz) and the Gestapo arrested him in 1942. His ended up at the concentration camp in Mauthausen where he was freed in May 1945 by the American army.
After having escaped narrow death he changed his identity both physically and morally, going under the name of Bill Orix.
His ordeal in Mathausen haunted him and he seeked refuge in painting.
He was married in Nice to another painter, Ania Staritsky [1908-1981].
“Orix” moved to Paris where he had two workshops as a painter and evolved his painting style.
In later years his eyesight detoriated and he had to abandon his art.
His paintings are to be found in about twenty countries around the world.
He was also profoundly griefed by losing his only son Stewart in a freak plane accident due to a badly locked door.
He also went under the name of ”William Hoorickx” and ”Willem Hoorickx”
Buried at Montparnasse cemetery in Paris.
His military papers had his birthdate as April 14.

Hoorickx étudie à l’Allgemeine Deutsche Schule à Anvers jusqu’en 1941.
Il poursuit ses études aux Pays-Bas où ses parents ont déménagé à cause de la guerre.
Toujours fasciné par les mouvements artistiques contemporains.
Joueur enthousiaste de hockey, si bon qu’il fut sélectionné pour représenter la Belgique en tant que remplaçant aux JO de 1928 à Saint-Moritz.
Diplômé de l’école de médecine tropicale d’Anvers.
Il fut aussi importateur de produits pétroliers. Hoodrickx fut volontaire dans l’armée belge.
En 1940, il fut placé dans l’arsenal de Tarbes, dans les Hautes-Pyrénées.
Fut emprisoné (Bruxelles, Berlin, Leitmeritz, Görlitz, Dresde, Prague, Linz) et la Gestapo l’arrête en 1942.
Il finit dans le camp de concentration de Mauthausen où il fut libéré en mai 1945 par l’armée américaine.
Après avoir échappé de peu à la mort, il change son identité physiquement et moralement, se faisant appeler Bill Orix.
Sa détention à Mathausen l’a hanté et il se réfugia dans la peinture.
Il se maria à Nice avec une autre peintre, Ania Staritsky (1908-1981).
Orix déménage à Paris où il a deux ateliers et fait évoluer sa peinture.
Plus tard, sa vision se détériore et il doit abandonner la peinture.
Ses oeuvres picturales se trouvent dans 20 pays à travers le monde.
Il fut profondément affecté de perdre son seul fils Stewart, dans un accident d’avion dû à une porte mal fermée.
Il est également connu sous les noms “William Hoorickx” et “Willem Hoorickx”.
Enterré au cimetière du Montparnasse à Paris.
Ses papiers militaires avaient le 14 avril comme date de naissance.
