Solid player who did not stand out in any area. Above average technically.
Played for Górnik Katowice until 1954, then for Gwardia Katowice.
12 games with Polish national team. Reserve player at the 1956 Winter Olympics.
Defected from Poland in November 1956 when he left his Polish team after a game in West Germany.
Continued to play in West Germany for Preußen Krefeld and Grefrath. During the last years he was a playing coach and retired in 1975.
Some sources stated that he was killed in a car accident a few years later.
That is however not true, Herda was alive and well, celebrating his 80th birthday in Germany where he had lived for almost 50 years.

Joueur du Górnik Katowice jusqu'en 1955, puis du Gwardia Katowice.
12 sélections en équipe nationale de Pologne. Remplaçant aux Jeux olympiques 1956.
Il a fui la Pologne en novembre 1956 quand il a quitté son équipe polonaise lors d'une tournée en Allemagne de l'ouest.
Il y a joué pour les Preußen Krefeld et pour Grefrath. Il était entraîneur-joueur à la fin de sa carrière et a raccroché les patins en 1975.
Certaines sources ont indiqué qu'il avait trouvé la mort dans un accident de voiture quelques années plus tard.
Ce n'est pas vrai, Herda était bien vivant et a célébré son 80e anniversaire en Allemagne où il vivait depuis près d'un demi-siècle.
