Oldest of two children. One of the best passers and two-way players for many years in the NHL. Very strong on faceoffs. Intelligent player with good leadership qualities through his entire career. Among the best point producers ever in NHL history.
Stanley Cup champion in 1991 and 1992 with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
He attended training camp and played in exhibition games prior to the World Cup in 1996, but decided to pull out due to an injury. Stayed in hockey after his playing career.
Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Aîné d'une famille de deux enfants, il fut pendant des années un des meilleurs passeurs et centres défensifs de la NHL. Très efficace aux mises en jeu, ce joueur intelligent se démarquera durant toute sa carrière par ses qualités d'équipier. Devint aussi un des meilleurs pointeurs au total de toute l'histoire de la Ligue.
Vainqueur de la Coupe Stanley en 1991 et 1992 avec les Pittsburgh Penguins.
Était pressenti pour la Coupe du monde 1996 en vue duquel il fit toute la préparation, mais une blessure de dernière minute l'incita à rester chez lui. Joua son dernier match de NHL à 41 ans. Resté dans le hockey, en tant que dirigeant, après sa carrière.
Introduit au Hall of Fame du hockey.
1798 points (549+1249) inscrits en 1731 parties de saison régulière de NHL.
