Came from a wealthy family as he was related to the electronics king, Philips.
Talented player. Relatively small but quick.
Scored the first ever official goal for the Dutch national team in 1935.
He used to go to Switzerland with teammate Felix de Jong during the Christmas holidays and play ice hockey in the Swiss Alps while visiting their friend and hockey teammate Bob van der Stok who studied there. Huib himself studied at the Delft university. Married E. “Beppie” van den Bosch in October 1941. During WW II he was a pilot.
He later was interned in Switzerland during the early 1940s together with his wife Beppie. Was at the labour camp of Cossonay, Switzerland.
He also was jailed in the Putrut prison for espionage. Their daughter Patty was born in exile in 1944.
His wife eventually got to Zürich while Huib ended up in London. There he enlisted in the Princess Irene Brigade in early 1945. He was an allround sportsman.
Also represented Netherlands in field hockey. Coached Netherlands to a bronze medal in field hockey at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. Worked for Philips.

Il venait d'une riche famille puisqu'il était lié au roi de l'électronique Philips.
Joueur talentueux. Assez petit mais rapide.
Il a marqué le tout premier but en match officiel de l'équipe des Pays-Bas en 1935.
Il allait en Suisse avec son coéquipier Felix de Jong pendant les vacances de Noël et jouait au hockey dans les Alpes suisses en rendant visite à son ami et équipier de hockey Bob van der Stok qui étudiait là-bas. Huib lui-même étudiait à l'université de Delft.
Il a épousé E. "Beppie" van den Bosch en octobre 1941. Pendant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale il était pilote.
Il a ensuite été interné en Suisse avec sa femme Beppie, au camp de travail de Cossonay.
Il a aussi été détenu à la prison de Putrut pour espionnage. Leur fille Patty est née en exil en 1944.
Sa femme est finalement allée à Zurich tandis que Huib a fini à Londres. Il s'y est engagé dans la brigade royale Princesse Irène début 1945.
C'était un sportif complet. Il a aussi représenté les Pays-Bas en hockey sur gazon et les a coachés vers une médaille de bronze aux Jeux olympiques d'été 1948 à Londres. Il a travaillé pour Philips.
