Born in Samedan and grew up in nearby Zernez. Good leadership skills.
Represented Switzerland 79 times. Formed a strong line with his two brothers Hugo and Othmar during the 1947 and 1949 World Championships.
Playing coach for HC La Chaux-de-Fonds in the early 1950s and then again between 1959-62.
Retired in 1964. Became a hockey coach and club president after his playing career.
Was a member of the Swiss (communist) Labour Party. Therefore he was forced to resign two weeks after he was named national team coach. This decision of the federation for political reasons was controversial in Switzerland.
In 1978 he suffered from kidney failure. Six months before his death he began a dialysis treatment twice a week and his health seemed to improve. On the night of his death he was watching television and shortly before 9 PM he buried his face in his hands and sank lifeless in his chair.

Né à Samedan, il a grandi dans le village voisin de Zernez. Bonnes capacités de leadership.
79 sélections en équipe de Suisse. A formé une ligne forte avec ses frères Hugo et Othmar pendant les championnats du monde 1947 et 1949.
Entraîneur-joueur du HC La Chaux-de-Fonds au début des années 1950 puis de 1959 à 1962.
À la fin de sa carrière de joueur en 1964, il est devenu coach et président de club.
Il était membre du PST-POP (le parti communiste suisse). C'est pourquoi il fut forcé de démissionner deux semaines après avoit été nommé sélectionneur national. Cette décision de la fédération déclencha une polémique en Suisse, indignant surtout la presse romande qui qualifia cette position de "ridicule", "ahurissante et attristante" ou "tragi-comique". La Gazette de Lausanne écrivit : "Le meilleur entraîneur que l'on avait trouvé jusqu'ici pour l'équipe nationale a dû être sacrifié sur l'autel des grands principes. Dommage tout de même que notre sport n'arriv pas à se distraire de la politique, il en sortirait tellement grandi."
En 1978 il a souffert d'insuffisance rénale. Six mois avant sa mort, il a commencé une dialyse deux fois par semaine et sa santé a semblé s'améliorer. La nuit de sa mort, il regardait la télévision, et peu avant 21 heures, il a refermé les mains sur son visage et est tombé sans vie sur sa chaise.
