Uncle of Oliver Jonas (German national team) and Isabel Jonas (German womens national team).
Longtime goaltender on the German national team. Played his club hockey for Düsseldorfer EG (1980-83,88-96), Kölner EC (1983-88), ESC Moskitos Essen (1996/97), Grefrather EV (1998/99) and Adler Mannheim (1999-2001).
Player of the year 1993 and six-time best goaltender in German league (1986, 1987, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994).
Won eleven German league titles, four with Cologne, five with Düsseldorf and two more as Mannheim second and third goalie in the end of his playing career.
After his retirement in 2001, he became a hockey coach and won ten junior titles with Mannheim.
Inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame.
