He was born in the small, central New York town of Oneida, but moved east up the NY State Thruway to the Capital District at age one. His father was a state trooper and was transfered to the Albany area, so Craig Darby also lived in Colonie, then, Saratoga.
He began skating at the age of three when his father had prepared a small skating rink in the family backyard.
Had a stellar High School and College career, setting a school record at Albany with 302 career points. In 1991 he led his Albany team to a 27-0 record and a four year total record of 101-1-10.
He wasn’t spectacular or flashy but consistent.
Scored 1240 (466+774) career points in 1319 games. Retired in 2008.
Became a hockey coach and also worked in commercial real estate.

Né dans la petite ville d'Oneida, au centre de l'État de New York, il a déménagé de 200 kilomètres vers la région d'Albany (Colonie puis Saratoga) à l'âge d'un an quand son père - policier - y a été muté.
Il a commencé à patiner à 3 ans quand son père a préparé une petite patinoire dans le jardin familial.
Carrière brillante au lycée, où il a établi le record de carrière de l'Albany Academy (302 points) et a emmené son équipe à 27 victoires pour aucune défaite à sa dernière saison.
Il n'était pas spectaculaire mais régulier.
56 (21+35) points en 196 parties de NHL, et 620 (218+402) points en 703 parties d'AHL.
À sa retraite en 2008, il est devenu entraîneur et a aussi travaillé dans l'immobilier.
