Began playing as a goaltender at the age of thirteen in his hometown of Sebeş. Came to Steaua Bucureşti in 1960 and played there for 19 years. As a player he won thirteen league titles and six cup titles. Represented Romania more than 300 times (including unofficial games).
After his retirement as a player he began coaching ice hockey teams. Was the Romanian National Team coach 1993 to 1995. Won fourteen league titles as a coach and another thirteen cup titles.
Known to be a jovial fellow who often joked around, keeping up the spirits of his teammates. Always had a smile on his face.
Died of cerebral commotion, although some sources said it was a heart attack. He was buried in his hometown of Sebeş where he was an honorary citizen.

S'installa très tôt dans la cage, à 13 ans, dans sa ville natale de Sebeş dont il sera fait citoyen d'honneur. Fut transféré au Steaua Bucureşti à 18 ans et y resta 19 ans, le temps de gagner treize titres de champion de Roumanie, six coupes nationales et d'amasser 300 sélections nationales environ, si l'on tient compte des rencontres non officielles.
Devint entraîneur après sa carrière de joueur. À ce poste, remporte quatorze autres titres de champion et treize coupes. Intégré au staff de l'équipe nationale entre 1993 et 1995.
Réputé pour sa bonne humeur, ses plaisanteries et son influence positive sur l'ambiance de l'équipe. Toujours souriant.
S'éteignit à 70 ans soit d'un accident cérébral, soit d'une attaque cardiaque selon les sources. Enterré à Sebeş.
