Dino Ciccarelli

Ciccarelli, Dino

Position : RW

08-02-1960 Sarnia, ON, CAN

His father immigrated to Canada from Italy in the 1950s. With no money he took every imaginable job in order to save enough money to bring over his wife. He thus worked as a welder, plumber and gas station attendant.
Dino himself inherited that hard working attitude. He was a gritty, aggravating player who could put the puck in the net, often around the crease. Strong in front of the goal where he often received punishment from opposing defensemen. Always in constant motion, darting in and out of the crease area. It enabled him to score many goals on rebounds and deflections. One of the best net crashers in NHL history. Never drafted in the NHL because of a broken leg as a junior. The feisty winger always was willing to pay the price.
Some of his darker moments included pleading guilty to indecent exposure and receiving probation in 1987, and then in an NHL-game on January 6, 1988, he attacked Luke Richardson with his stick. As a result of this incident, he was convicted of assault, fined $1,000, and sentenced to one day in jail. Retired in 1999 after suffering from nagging back pain.
Owned a nightclub named "Club 22" in Shelby Charter Township, for the jersey number he wore in the NHL. After it closed in 2011 he opened a sports bar named "Ciccarelli's Sports Bar Theater".
Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
NHL totals: 1232-608-592-1200.
