Began playing road hockey four to five hours daily or more, on the river and on outdoor rinks. With his brother Bill he used magazines for shin pads and hockey sticks made by their father. They even shared a pair of skates and one would use them for half an hour then the other would trade. Later played alongside his brother at the Olympics in 1960 and 1964. Another brother, Gord, also played in the Olympics, but earlier, in 1956, as did his nephew Dave Christian in 1980.
Was very hard to knock off the puck. Worked the corners very well. Played nearly 20 years with his hometown Warroad Lakers.
Went on to co-found the multi-million dollar stick and equipment manufacturing company called Christian Brothers. Passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Inducted into the US Hockey Hall of Fame.

Commence à jouer au hockey sauvage, quatre ou cinq heures quotidiennes, avec son frère Bill sur la rivière gelée ou des patinoires improvisées. Les frangins se fabriquaient des jambières avec de vieux magazines et utilisaient les crosses taillées par leur père. Parfois, ils étaient obligés de partager une paire de patins, une demi-heure chacun. Cette complicité se retrouva aux JO 1960 et 1964 auxquels ils participèrent ensemble. Leur aîné Gord avait été de la quinzaine, mais en 1956 et son neveu Dave imitera la fratrie en 1980.
Solide, Roger était difficile à déloger de ses appuis et du palet. Aimait batailler dans les coins. Jouera une vingtaine d'années pour les Warroad Lakers.
Co-fondateur de la fabrique d'équipement de hockey sur glace Christian Brothers Stick co., qui connaître un succès fulgurant. Décédé à l'Altru Hospital de Grand Forks, dans le Dakota du Nord.
Introduit au Hall of Fame américain du hockey sur glace.
