Relied on his superior quickness and puckhandling ability. Christian’s father owned a construction business in Warroad. Bill and his older brother Roger were among the six children in the Christian family. They were forced to grow up hard and in a hurry after their mother passed away.
Played alongside his brother Roger at the Olympics in 1960 and 1964. Their older brother Gord also made it to the Olympics but earlier, in 1956.
Played 23 seasons for Warroad Lakers and never had a losing season. In 1964, with other family members, he helped found Christian Brothers, Inc., a multi-million dollar hockey stick and equipment manufacturing company.
Inducted into the US Hockey Hall of Fame.

Avait pour atouts sa rapidité de gestes et sa maîtrise du palet. Fils d'un entrepreneur en bâtiment de Warroad et d'une mère décédée quand il était encore très jeune, ce qui obligea les six enfants de la famille à mûrir précocement.
Bill participa aux côtés de son frère Roger aux Jeux olympiques de 1960 et 1964. Leur grand-frère Gord connut lui aussi une expérience aux Jeux, mais ceux de 1956.
En 23 saisons disputées sous le maillot des Warroad Lakers, il n'a jamais fini avec un bilan victoires-défaites négatif. En 1964, il fonda avec d'autres membres de sa famille la Christian Brothers, Inc., qui deviendra une entreprise fructueuse d'équipement de hockey sur glace.
Introduit au Hall of Fame américain du hockey sur glace.
