He had three brothers and two sisters. His ancestors from his father's side can be traced back to England and John Conant in the 1520s. From his mother's side they can be traced back to England in 1603 and Edward Wigglesworth of Scotton, Lincolnshire who later emigrated to Connecticut.
Strong, graceful and fast center with good on ice vision and playmaking abilities. Also a strong stickhandler. Began his formal hockey career at Milton Academy playing on the 1922-23 team.
Transferring to Exeter Academy the following year he played there one year before matriculating at Harvard in the fall of 1924. Captained the Harvard University team and the US Olympic team 1932.
Following his graduation from Harvard he turned down pro contracts and played for Boston Athletic Association, Boston University Club, and Brac Burn Hockey Club. Also a good baseball player. Coached at Harvard between 1942 and 1950.
Inducted into the US Hockey Hall of Fame.

Elevé entre ses trois frères et deux soeurs. Sa généalogie nous ramène dans l'Angleterre des XVIe et XVIIe siècles. Un de ses aïeuls côté paternel se nomme John Conant, qui n'était pas un barbare et vécut en 1520. Du côté de sa mère, on retrouve un certain Edward Wigglesworth de Scotton, Lincolnshire. Il y vivait au tout début du XVIIe avant d'émigrer vers l'actuel Connecticut.
Centre costaud, gracieux et rapide, faiseur de jeu grâce à sa bonne vision d'ensemble, bon manieur de crosse également, Chase commença vraiment le hockey sur glace à partir de 1922 dans l'équipe de la Milton Academy, sa ville de naissance.
Transita vers l'Exeter Academy l'année suivante, toujours dans le Massachussetts, avant d'être reçu à Harvard l'année de ses 18 ans. Devint capitaine de son équipe universitaire et, quelques années plus tard, de l'équipe américaine des JO 1932.
Une fois diplômé d'Harvard, il déclina la possibilité de devenir pro et préféra jouer pour la Boston Athletic Association, le Boston University Club et le Brac Burn Hockey Club. Egalement doué batte en main. Fut entraîneur à Harvard entre 1942 et 1950.
Introduit au Hall of Fame du hockey US.
