Cattini, Johann Joseph ("Joe")

Position : C/RW/D

24-01-1914 Davos, SUI
02-04-1987 Lausanne, SUI

Youth team / club formateur : HC Davos

One of the best pre-war players in Europe. Formed a superb line together with his younger brother Pic Cattini and Bibi Torriani, both in HC Davos and the national team.
His father Giovanni originated from Albinea, a municipality in the Province of Reggio Emilia in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna. His mother, born Schissler, was from Rovereto, then in Austria.
The family settled in Grono, where they got Swiss nationality in 1916 when Hans was two-year-old. The father worked as carpenter in Davos.
Had an underrated and accurate shot. Switched to defense in later years. Represented Switzerland 111 times (54 goals). In total he played 18 seasons in Davos, winning 15 league titles.
Like his younger brother, he played a Canadian style of hockey, teached by Bobby Bell, an old Montreal Victorias player.
Was an LIHG referee. Worked as an electrician in Davos together with his linemates. They were all employed by another teammate, Albert "Tiger" Geromini.
Afterwards he founded his own electrician business (Hans Cattini S.A.) in Lausanne.
Inducted into the IIHF Hockey Hall of Fame.
