Born and raised in Prague. Began playing ice hockey at the age of eight.
Relocated to Košice in Slovakia to do his military duty and stayed there for the rest of his career.
A very fair player with an elegant playing style. Had a fine shot and was creative.
Fairly slow skater but quick in his mind.
Scored 237 goals and more than 400 points in 583 league games.
Represented Czechoslovakia 21 times (5 goals).
Was nominated for the 1972 Olympics, but broke his wrist shortly before the tournament.
Had the misfortune that during his best years the national team had a very deep talent pool at center position.
Many years later he proudly talked about his scar on his face given to him by legendary Soviet defender Aleksandr Ragulin.
Retired in 1981. Became a hockey coach after his playing career in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Holland.

Il est né et a grandi à Prague. Il débuta le hockey à huit ans.
Parti à Košice dans l'actuelle Slovaquie pour son service militaire, il y resta finalement le reste de sa carrière.
Joueur très classe avec un style de jeu élégant. Il avait un bon lancer et était créatif.
Patineur un peu lent mais rapide dans ses décisions.
Il a marqué 237 buts et plus de 400 points en 583 matchs de championnat.
International tchécoslovaque 21 fois (5 buts).
Sélectionné pour les JO de 1972, il se cassa le poignet peu avant le tournoi.
Malheureusement pour lui, durant ses meilleurs années, la sélection comptait un très grand nombre de talents évoluant au poste de centre.
Bien des années plus tard, il parlait encore avec fierté de sa cicatrice au visage qui lui fut donnée par le légendaire défenseur soviétique Aleksandr Ragulin.
Retraité en 1981. Il devint entraîneur en République Tchèque, en Slovaquie et aux Pays-Bas.
