Smart player with a good understanding of the game. Known to be a very determined player who played with vigor.
Had Irish roots as his paternal grandfather came to Canada from Northern Ireland in 1842.
Played both lacrosse and ice hockey. Moved to Regina at the age of seven.
Educated at Regina collegiate institute and earned a B.A. at University of Saskatchewan.
Then went to Oxford University (1922-25). He had a lengthy and varied graduate training.
Between 1925 and 1932 he practiced at St.Mary’s hospital in London, England. He later worked at St.John’s Hopkins hospital in Baltimore, USA.
From 1936 he was in Toronto, active at University of Toronto and as an attending physician at Toronto western hospital until 1946.
After the war he went back to London and served as a senior consultant in army medical research.
Part of the national research council of Canada 1942-47. In 1949 he was the chief physician of the Toronto Western Hospital.
On retirement in 1962 he was appointed emeritus professor of medicine.
Died in 1964 of cardiac infarction just like his father.
One of his fellow students from Oxford said: “He was not just one of my friends, but the one from whom I got sparks of fire. He was gay, unscared, naughty, unsentimental, shrewd and eager. The world has become a chillier place for me.”

D'origines irlandaises, ses grands-parents paternels sont arrivés au Canada depuis l'Irlande du Nord en 1842.
Il pratiquait à la fois la crosse et le hockey sur glace. Il arriva à Regina à l'âge de sept ans.
Éduqué au Regina collegiate institute, il obtint un diplôme en arts de l'Université de Saskatchewan.
Il étudia ensuite à l'Université d'Oxford (1922-25). Il connut une formation diplômante longue et variée.
Entre 1925 et 1932 il pratiqua à l'hôpital St.Mary de Londres, en Angleterre, puis à l'hôpital St.John’s Hopkins de Baltimore (USA).
En 1936 il était à Toronto, travaillant pour l'Université de Toronto et comme médecin traitant à l'hôpital ouest de la ville jusqu'en 1946.
Après la guerre il revint à Londres et servit comme consultant majeur dans la recherche médicale militaire.
Membre du conseil national de recherches du Canada entre 1942 et 1947. En 1949 il devint médecin-chef de l'hôpital ouest de Toronto.
À sa retraite en 1962 il fut nommé professeur émérite de médecine.
Décédé en 1964 d'un infarctus du myocarde comme son père.
Un de ses étudiants à Oxford déclara : "Il n'était pas seulement un de mes amis, mais celui qui m'a donné des étincelles. Il était gai, sans peur, coquin, peu sentimental, astucieux et passionné. Le monde a gagné en frisson pour moi."
