Began playing ice hockey as a six year old around Osramstraße in Weißwasser.
Regarded as one of the technically most skilled players in Weißwasser history. Described as a very fair player, being sportsmanlike at all times.
Played for the junior Silesian selection team, participating in the German junior championships before the war.
Fought in WW II and was in the Wehrmacht when he was captured by the Russians. Spent two long years in a Russian POW camp and didn’t come home until the winter of 1947/48.
Despite getting sick during his capture and losing a lot of weight, his willpower and determination enabled him to get back as a top player.
Won his first ever East German championship in 1951, and had a triumphal procession with his teammates in the streets of Weißwasser.
It was his first of a total of eleven league titles. Represented East Germany 56 times.
Retired in 1961 and became a hockey coach for Dynamo Weißwasser, coaching both the senior and junior teams. He led his teal to four more championships for a total of 15 national titles.
During his playing days he worked as a locksmith in a glass factory.
He used to train daily after work despite the long hours.

Il a commencé à jouer au hockey à six ans autour de l'Osramstraße à Weißwasser.
Considéré comme l'un des joueurs les plus doués techniquement de l'histoire de Weißwasser. Décrit comme un joueur très loyal et correct à tout moment.
Il a joué pour la sélection junior de Silésie, participant au championnat d'Allemagne junior avant la guerre.
Il était dans la Wehrmacht quand il fut capturé par les Russes et passa plus de deux ans dans des camps de prisonniers dont il ne sortit qu'à l'hiver 1947/48.
Revenu malade et très amaigri du camp. Sa volonté et sa détermation lui ont permis de redevenir un joueur de premier plan.
Il remporta son premier championnat est-allemand en 1951, et connut une procession triomphale dans les rues de Weißwasser avec ses coéquipiers.
Il gagna onze championnats consécutifs. 56 sélections avec l'Allemagne de l'Est.
En parallèle de sa carrière de joueur il fut serrurier dans une usine de verre. Il s'entraînait tous les jours malgré la longueur de sa journée de travail.
Retraité en 1961, il est devenu entraîneur du Dynamo Weißwasser et l'a conduit à 4 autres titres... soit 15 titres nationaux de suite.
Il a ensuite entraîné les juniors puis été directeur de la patinoire de Weißwasser.
