His father, a fighter pilot was shot down in WW II, on Yuri’s eighth birthday, October 5, 1941. Played 240 league games, scoring 135 goals. Represented Soviet Union 19 times (4 goals).
He won the Soviet league championships six times. He played for Spartak Moscow 1952/53, CDSA 1953-55, CSK MO: 1955-60, CSKA 1960-62, SKA Leningrad 1962-64, Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk 1964-66. Later became a coach, winning two titles with the Soviet junior national team 1970 and 1971. Also coached Spartak Moscow, KAC Klagenfurt (Austria), Enbek Alma-Ata, Motorist Karaganda and Metalurg Cherepovets. Baulin was instrumental in the development of ice hockey in Kazakhstan as he instilled discipline and professionalism to the teams there.
Much of it he learned from Anatoli Tarasov and Vsevolod Bobrov. Baulin lived for ice hockey.
He was calm, polite, hated bureaucrats and always had a notepad in his hand.
Coached youth hockey in his last years and was very popular. Had a stroke in 2003.
Passed away after a long illness at the city hospital of Zelenograd.
According to his passport he was born in Kharkov, Ukraine.

Son père, un pilote d'avion fut tué lors de la Seconde guerre mondiale le jour du huitième anniversaire de Yuri, le 5 octobre 1941. Il a joué 240 matchs de championnat, inscrivant 135 buts. Sélectionné avec l'Union Soviétique 19 fois (4 buts).
Il remporta le championnat soviétique six fois. Il joua pour le Spartak Moscou 1952/53, le CDSA 1953-55, puis CSK MO 1955-60 et CSKA 1960-62, le SKA Leningrad 1962-64, et le Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk 1964-66. Devint ensuite entraîneur, remportant deux titres avec la sélection junior soviétique en 1970 et 1971. Il a aussi entraîné le Spartak Moscou, KAC Klagenfurt (Autriche), Enbek Alma-Ata, Motorist Karaganda et Metalurg Cherepovets. Baulin fut un instigateur du développement du hockey sur glace au Kazakhstan en initiant les équipes locales à la discipline et au professionnalisme.
Une grande partie de ce qu'il avait appris, il le doit à Anatoli Tarasov et Vsevolod Bobrov. Baulin vivait pour le hockey.
Il était calme, poli, détestait les bureaucrates et avait toujours un carnet dans sa main.
Il entraîna en hockey mineur sur ses dernières années et il était très populaire. Il fit un accident vasculaire cérébral en 2003.
Il est décédé d'une longue maladie à l'hôpital de Zelenograd.
Selon son passeport, il est né à Kharkov en Ukraine.
