Born in the former mining village Hill of Beath in Fife, Scotland.
His father George Sr. was a miner and his mother Jessie a housewife.
Moved to Melville, SK, Canada at age of two in May 1921.
Was a left wing earlier in his career, but switched to defence later on.
Settled down in Toronto after his playing career in 1950.
Became a Canadian citizen in 1956. Lived in Innisfil, Ontario.
He was married three times, but had no children. Worked as an aircraft mechanic.

Il est né dans l'ancien village minier de Hill of Beath dans la province de Fife, en Écosse.
Son père George Sr. était mineur et sa mère Jessie femme au foyer.
Il est parti à Melville, SK, Canada à l'âge de deux ans en mai 1921.
Il fut ailier gauche en début de carrière, puis est passé en défense plus tard.
Il s'installa à Toronto à l'issue de sa carrière de joueur en 1950.
Devenu citoyen canadien en 1956. Il vivait à Innisfil dans l'Ontario.
Il a été marié trois fois, mais n'a pas eu d'enfants. Il travaillait comme mécanicien aéronautique.
