Younger brother of Wayne Babych.
His parents were hard working Ukranians who had emigrated to Edmonton.
Came out of juniors as a top prospect in Canada.
Big (6-2 and 215lbs) and steady defenseman who had good offensive skills in his early years. Had a hard shot from the point and was often used as a point man on the powerplays. Was a leader on the ice and had a knack of making big plays.
Above average in blocking shots and clearing the crease.
Grew up idolizing Bobby Orr and Gordie Howe. Played well over 1000 NHL games.

Grand (188cm et 98kg) and solide défenseur qui avait de bonnes facultés offensives dans ses jeunes années. Il avait un lancer puissant et il était souvent utilisé comme un homme clé en supériorité numérique. Il était un leader sur la glace et avait cette faculté à produire de grandes actions.
Sortait du lot pour ce qui est de bloquer des tirs et de faire le ménage devant la cage.
Il a grandi en idolâtrant Bobby Orr et Gordie Howe. Il a joué plus de 1000 rencontres NHL.
